Can Preventative Maintenance Save Me Money on Gas?

Do you feel like you need a Volkswagen mechanic because your car’s fuel efficiency doesn’t seem to be what it should be? If so, then here are some tips on how to get your car running better in order to save you more cash on gas!

Helping Your Car Get Better Gas Mileage

Here are a few simple things you can do to save lots of cash on gas this year, and our knowledgeable Volkswagen repair specialists will be happy to assist you.

Keep Your Tire Pressure Regulated

It’s not so hard nowadays to keep track of the tire pressure on your BMW, Audi, Mini, Volvo, or Volkswagen. This is because of the TREAD (Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) Act, which requires by law that any vehicle made after the year 2007 have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, or TPMS, installed on it.

Still, it’s always a good rule of thumb to manually check your tire pressure once or twice a month; it’ll greatly improve your fuel efficiency.

Buy Regular Fuel

Some vehicles recommend that the driver only put in the highest-priced premium fuel. But, remember, this is only a recommendation. You won’t hurt your car engine if you decide to use regular unleaded… just ask any one of our experienced Volkswagen mechanics!

The American Automobile Association (AAA) did a report a few years ago about how Americans waste a couple billion dollars every year on premium gas, petrol that only increases the power of vehicles a small bit.

Keep Your Oil Changed

Most people realize that the engine oil you buy over-the-counter is what keeps the metal pieces in your engine lubricated so that it doesn’t overheat. But you’d be surprised how many drivers never change their oil on schedule, then complain about how bad their car is on gas!

There are also many people who don’t buy the right type of oil in addition to the folks who simply don’t change it according to the schedule that their car owner’s manual suggests.

Other things you can do to help your car save gas is to keep a fresh engine air filter, limit your speeding out on the road, and not ignore your check engine light.
